Gospel songstress, Grace Ashy has
refuted reports suggesting that she
has been suspended from the
Methodist University College for
examination malpractice.
The Razz newspaper report earlier
today that the singer, who is a level
400 student at the Methodist
University College, Accra was
allegedly caught cheating during an
end-of-semester examination and
has subsequently been suspended
from the school for two semesters for
her misconduct.
The paper claimed that the University
has suspended her for two semesters
which meant that the artiste who was
expected to graduate this year, would
have to hold on and graduate another
year.
Reacting to the story in an interview
with myjoyonline.com, the ‘Gyese
Woba Mu’ hit singer said the story is
false and that she is still an active
student of the Methodist University
College.
“There was an issue of that sort, but I
wasn’t involved; just that I was part
of a group discussing something. My
name is popular and so if really there
is anything such, my name will be
first mentioned meanwhile I have
done nothing,” Grace Ashly lamented.
She added that “even yesterday.
Tuesday, July 22, 2014; I went to
register for my resit exams so I’m still
a student. I don’t know who is
behind this, but I believe there is
somebody behind it and I don’t know
their reason.”
Explaining what might have fuelled
the negative reportage, the gospel
musician said “I was part of a group
discussing a Constitution paper and
the invigilators came in but
unfortunately all the students
dispersed and left a booklet behind
but I picked it and called one of the
invigilators to come for it.”
According to her the incident
happened two semesters ago before
the said exams and she said she
even wrote last semester’s
examinations.
But Public Relations Officer of the
Methodist University College, Kwesi
Agyapong speaking in an interview
with myjoyonline.com said “as it
stands now she has not [been]
sacked from the school as it has been
reported in some media circles.”
He added that, “She is still a student
of the Methodist University College,
but I will prefer you let her confirm
her suspension or whatever it is.”
Kwesi Agyapong said “it’s not true” if
Grace Ashly says she wrote last
semester’s examinations.
Pushed to give a yes or no answer as to if she has been suspended, the Methodist University College
spokesperson hesitated and said
“Yes!”.
